Why I built it

I moved to Germany with zero German and learned the language from scratch. That taught me something most language apps ignore: the goal is not a streak, it is the moment you can actually say what you mean to another person. The apps I tried drilled vocabulary fine. None of them got me talking.

Govoriti (it means "to speak") is the tool I wish I had had. Croatian, A1 to C1, built around producing the language rather than just recognizing it.

Croatian, specifically, for a blunt reason: I wanted to speak as much of the language as I could before a trip to Croatia. When I went looking for an app, I hit the gap, none of the big language platforms even offer Croatian. It is a real language people actually need to learn, and the market skipped it. I needed the tool anyway, so I built it.

How I built it

The idea is to let AI do a tutor's job: make the material, correct your sentences, meet you where you actually are, without reducing you to a streak to protect. So I started from the human side: what does learning to speak actually feel like, and where do you get stuck.

In practice that is a structured A1 to C1 path, not a loose pile of exercises: lessons, speaking checkpoints, correction, and review, arranged module by module. You produce a real sentence in context and the correction comes back specific, why "ću otići" takes the infinitive, why a plural subject needs "oni su", instead of a red buzzer and a lost streak. The whole thing points at the moment you can hold a conversation, not the moment you hit day thirty.

Where it is

Live, covering A1 to C1, and growing its first real users. Right now the work is listening: watching where people get stuck and folding that back into the product.
